Sweater Pillows

Ok, I got bored...I was at the thrift shop, which by the way is at the end of the road from work about 2 minutes drive.  Not a good thing, I know.  Anyhoo, I found a few sweaters that I thought would make great throw pillow covers so I am working on a few now.  Here are two that I made yesterday (green).  The one that is cream and brown print was a skirt that I found at the thrift store and turned into a pillow cover also.  I just loved the print.  First I layed out the sweater, accessed the situation.  I cut the sleeves and the two buttons off at the top.  I then cut the border off across the top front.  Turned the item inside out and pinned it after all four sides were raw cut.  I used my sewing machine and sewed up the four sides.  I used a stitch that looks like a zig-zag with a straight stitch on the left side.  I added the pillow, sewed the buttons on, spacing them equally.  For the two button holes I cut two holes that were 1/3 the length of the button.  Closed all buttons up and then had some sleeves left over so I cut the seam open on the two sleeves,  cut the excess seam off where it was sewn, then laid both open sleeves face to face and cut them so it would look like a rectangular smaller pillow when done.  It was too plain so I added rosettes.  Using some of the throw away excess of the sweater, I had enough to make three.  I cut three rectangular pieces.  Folding each piece in half, I then rolled them around into a pinwheel type circle and stitched them and then stitched the rosettes to the pillow.  I made one with raw edges stitched then added that one to change up the look.

Server Cabinet from 70's - help me figure out what to repurpose it into

I found this for 22.50 plus tax at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.  Brought it home, primed it with Zinser, two coats of dark brown paint and waiting to figure out what to do with the doors so they are not so Country looking. Paintable wallpaper?  Any ideas?

Starburst Mirror made with Wood SHIMS!

hotglued shims together and glued a mirror on the front.  Glued a ribbon on the back and hung it on the wall!  Well, I stained it first then glazed it with medium mixed with black white tan to make a glaze in a washed drift wood look.

Pillow Sham made Kitchenaid Mixer Cover!

After trial and error 2x I decided to measure my own machine first...duh...I put a pocket on the front and sewed down the middle. Its great for the recipe booklets.
I will be making a few more and embroidering the kitchenaid mixer on the front next time. I had to order the embroidery attachment for my machine because I lost it!

Hollywood Regency Chair makeover for my craft room

I found this chair at the salvation army thrift store for $15 - stripped the seat and sprayed it with my favorite color then took some fabric and made a pattern and lined the seat then made a cover and a ruffle. I sewed the ruffle to the chair cover and I am going to make two slits in the back later and add ties so the cover can be removed for cleaning if necessary.

Redo rooster tray

I found this cute tray at the local gold mine store and took it apart, it had masonite inside. The fabric was glued on the board. I removed it, covered it with a piece of fabric, set it aside, cleaned the glass, painted the frame with catalina mist. I gave it three coats of paint. Cut a matching piece of fabric and hotglued it on the back. Walaaa

My flowers are blooming! My cat oat grass is blooming!!

silver leafed tray, birds, nest, thrift store candle holders

Silver leafed the tray (thrift store), painted my birds with left over paint, added a nest from a thingamabob from my basement - I think a home interior wall hanging it came from, added a pair of thrift store candle holders

My idea of Easter decorations

Dried hydrangea is so pretty. I like the fresh ones better but these will do. I remembered in the back of my basement craft room I had these little birds nests I tore off of a country budding weeping tree. Added rock from my candle dish and painted my little birds from CO off white. I like them - they are cute! My chalkboard was made from a framed Italian wall thing from the thrift store reject secton! Mixed some paint for my color of choice, painted the frame. Painted the back of the frame with chalkboard paint and sanded it lightly to get it prepped to write on later. I glazed it with watered down black paint.

Thrift Store Frame revamped

Thought this frame was pretty cool so I decided to do something different with it. It had mint green gross grain ribbon around the edge - glued on. I removed it and tried scraping it off. When that didnt work I decided to just paint it black. I then tried something brave...I painted the mat as well - only white. It came out rather well I think. I will have to try that in the future with the mats!

More silver leafing - 3 footed pedestal bowl

This bowl was so cute when I found it but it needed some character so I used spray adhesive, let her dry while making dinner and went back to silver leaf it. It didn't take much and looked cute when done.

Love Pottery Barn Mercury Lamps...my version

took these apart, scraped inside out of the glass - it seemed to be a type of copper coated paint. Using looking glass paint by krylon I sprayed 5 light sweeping coats allowing it to dry in between about 15 minutes each time. Brilliant silver spray by krylon to fill in some of the gaps. Using a soft damp cloth after the tackiness was gone - I rubbed some of the paint to make an aged appearance. I put the lamp back together and tried different shades I had on it. The burlap shades are looking best to me at his time.

Tinfoiled nightstand - silver furniture

Vintage Drexel nightstand. I modpodged the nightstand then crinkled tinfoil and smoothed it onto the stand until the entire stand was covered. Mixed up some glaze using black craft paint, pewter Valspar glaze and water. Wiping on the glaze so it got in the nooks and crannies then wiping it down so most was gone.

2 Framed Fruit prints to 2 Framed Floral prints!

I loved these frames with great mats I found at the thrift store but I needed to do something different to make them bright and shiny so, I took them apart, masked off the glass and painted the frames Krylon Brilliant Silver. I hand painted the burgandy rim on the mats white and let them dry. I printed two high resolution photographs of pretty flowers and added them to the frames, tightened the back up and walah!

$5 Pottery Barn Look-A-Like Lamp

Found for $5 at my secret place - Junk Heaven.
I sanded this lamp down, white washed it with watered down white craft paint then added a bit of tan craft paint to tone it down. LOVE IT! Burlaped the shade.
See before and after.

Faux Mercury Glass with Looking Glass paint by Krylon

I have been watching my favorite bloggers and decided to make my own mercury glass items after coveting Pottery Barn's lamps. I love love love Pottery Barn!!!!!! I found some glass items at the thrift store and bought some Looking glass paint by Krylon with my 50% off coupons. I also found silver leaf is one of my favorite texture items to use as well. I did some glass with each of the two crafting ideas and here are the results. Vintage look and quick and easy. You spray light coats allowing it to dry in between coats (inside of glass). The mirror finish starts to appear. I also silver leafed some of the glassware and added candles to the inside. Very pretty at night lit up. Using spray adhesive on the inside of the glass, allowing it to dry for 10 minutes or so then applying the silver leaf sheets to the inside of the glass carefully creates a oh-so-unique appearance. I even did a vintage frame and I love it!!
